Project Start: Q3 2026

Objectives

Development of an autonomous sensor system for monitoring expansion joints of bridge-roadway transitions.

This project aims to design and develop an innovative monitoring and warning system for the early detection of critical conditions at bridge-road joints. Using acoustic methods, different types of defects will be detected, classified, and alarms triggered as needed. The project's goal is to develop a compact, cost-effective, and reliable structural health monitoring system that increases safety, reduces inspection efforts, and enables early maintenance.

Expected results

  • Investigation of potential technologies and integration of suitable sensors.
  • Design and development of an energy-autonomous sensor system with solar power supply, battery storage, and wireless alarm transmission.
  • Validation of the system through laboratory and field tests regarding reliability and long-term stability.
