Neural Quantum Sensing

Partner Call open until: 31.12.2025

Project Start: Jan 2026

Objectives

The objective is to develop portable quantum sensing system for detecting neuronal electrical activity by passive measurements of weak magnetic fields, induced by ionic currents in axons.

To develop quantum sensing system for detecting neuronal electrical activities by passive measurements of weak magnetic fields, induced by ionic currents in axons.

Research will include the following activities:

  • Proof of feasibility experiments in simulated environments
  • Development of a prototype of such quantum sensor
  • In-vitro experiments on bio-samples.
  • System level integration aspects and photonic packaging

Expected results

  • Solid-state spin-based magnetometer with <100pT/rtHz and high sensing bandwidth.
  • System level integration processes for integrated quantum sensors.
  • Detected neuronal electromagnetic signals of different biological samples.
