Project Start: 09.03.2026

Objectives

A detailed concept study of next-generation smart airplane seats will enhance flight safety, reduce fuel consumption, and save on maintenance efforts.

Our objective is to transform seat maintenance from a scheduled routine into a predictive, data-driven process. By integrating sensor technology into next-generation smart seats to monitor cushion wear, weight distribution, wetness, and safety equipment in real-time, we enable a just-in-time replacement model. This shift from calendar-based to condition-based maintenance allows service crews to replace only the cushions that need it, drastically cutting costs while guaranteeing passenger comfort.

Expected results

  • Detailed report and feasibility study for:

  • Sensing principles and technologies
  • Wireless systems for communication, localization and sensing
  • Signal processing and AI
  • Integration of electronics
