Partner Call open until: October 31, 2025
Project Start: April 2026
Today's satellite communications are being completely transformed by new satellite constellations in low and medium earth orbits instead of geostationary satellites. These constellations represent a major improvement and feature global coverage, significantly reduced latency and high-throughput broadband communications. However, the next major transformation with 5G-NTN is already upon us.
5G-NTN is based on an open 3GPP standard that is perfectly suited for high-performance consumer electronics. Furthermore, the introduction of private 5G/6G-NTN networks will enable satellite communications with unprecedented security and resilience. This even enables time-sensitive, mission-critical use cases with massive device connectivity.
The combination of 5G-NTN with efficient phased array antennas will be a groundbreaking innovation and offer a great opportunity to enter a market worth billions.
Expected results
The project goal is a fully functional demonstrator of a 5G-NTN user terminal with TRL6 that can be used for almost all satellite constellations.
- Compact and ultra-efficient phased array antenna
- Private 5G/6G satellite communication networks for enterprise, military and government
- Integration into next-generation 5G routers and smart TVs
- Broadband internet in homes, cars, airplanes and ships
The use cases investigated within the scope of the project will be defined according to the areas of interest of the participating project partners.
