Objectives

To develop safe, low-cost, flexible printed circuits for interactive books and games.

The main challenges and topics of investigation are:

  • Integration of printed electronic components (such as sensors, LEDs, touch circuits, or flexible batteries) into children’s books and games.
  • Development of conductive inks and printing methods for safe, child-friendly applications.
  • Development of low-cost, flexible printed circuits suitable for embedding in paper or cardboard materials.
  • Testing and optimizing circuit layouts for power efficiency, reliability, sensitivity, and ease of integration into printed materials.
  • Consideration of Recyclability, Ecodesign and Made in Europe Strategies.

Expected results

  • A functional prototype of an interactive children’s book or game integrating printed electronic components such as sensors or LEDs.
  • Demonstrated feasibility of embedding low-cost, flexible printed circuits into paper-based products without compromising safety, usability, or eco credentials.
  • Optimized printing and circuit design processes for combined screen printing / electronic integration / offset printing.
