EMI Clean Converters

Identify electromagnetic interference early and avoid costly redesigns: Our simulation framework helps assess and minimize EMC risks from the very beginning of the power electronics development process.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a deciding criterion that can hinder a company from entering a market timely with its products. EMC is qualified mostly at a very late stage and causes huge costs to implement palliative measures.

Integrating EMC already from the beginning of the power electronic design helps to reduce these costs. In this project we establish a simulation framework for power electronic hardware designs that allows our partners to pre-estimate Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) of the equipment design, throughout the whole design phase.

Scope

  • We take leading edge power electronic designs to create simulation procedures as well as component-modelling procedures and enable the partners to employ these hands-on approaches in their companies.
  • These procedures allow to model all relevant components and incorporate them into the created simulation flow. Component models will be vastly extended beyond their functional model range, e.g. considering extended frequency range and the influence of the operation point. The project partners will be autonomous in creating these models and apply the developed simulation procedures.
  • Knowledge and techniques on “Reduced Order Modeling” will be applied, to keep simulation time within practical time frames.
  • We also apply machine learning algorithms and employ surrogate models for finding global optima in the designs between EMC performance and costs.
  • We create simulation procedures for conducted emissions as well as for radiated emissions, in a frequency range up to several hundred MHz, well beyond the current state-of-art.
