NOVETROL

The project NOVETROL is investigating a new fast, passive and resettable current limiter for DC grids, based on high-mobility semiconductors and the magnetoresistance effect.

We aim to develop a fast, passive and resettable current limiter for DC grids. The current limiter is based on the magnetoresistance effect found in semiconductors with high charge carrier mobility. The device changes from a low electrical resistance state to a high electrical resistance state when under the influence of a magnetic field. The source of the magnetic field is the fault current to be limited itself, making this a self-regulating solution.
